About Me

I am Gejanne, born on the 21th of August in 1984, living in Groningen in the Netherlands. There I study Time Based Media, related to Multi Media Design, at the Academy of Arts Minerva. This study is about animation and film, which we use to create short movies, music video clips, leaders and titles, commercials and free work. It also includes illustration, web design and developing creative concepts for many purposes.

I love every aspect of it, yet I try to specialize in the art of animation.
I like to lean on my skills and knowledge of the art of drawing, painting, photography, dance, writing, theatre and music to create my animations and movies. Ix92m a dreamer who gets inspiration anywhere. I am fascinated by the beauty of simplicity, old materials, handmade looks and storytelling;
culture, myths, religions, and fairy tales;
life, animals, people and nature;
imagination without limits, riddles, wonders and surrealistic scenes.
While teachers keep telling me to keep my projects small and compact, I live by the philosophy x91The Sky Is The Limitx92.

To me the most challenging parts of my study and my future profession are:
1) making choices;
There are so many options and solutions!
2) framing my creative process;
An artist has got ongoing creative processes, get's inspiration everywhere, ideas come and go whenever they do.
3) time management;
The fact that my drive and eager to learn make me spend a lot of time inside, behind my computer or desk, while at the same time I love to be outside.
Now to solve that problem, I could become a gardener, but my head would probably explode of all the dreams and ideas that I canx92t turn into creations (or my garden will look kinda strangex85) and Ix92ll miss the joy of working on my creative projects.
So I try to keep my balance, make sure I spend some time in nature and with my beloved ones and my very best friend Brum Brum Elvis. In the meanwhile just embrace the fact that Ix92m an artist.

Vulcanos on the Northern Islands of New Zealand

My first cut-out-stopmotion. It tells the story of an old Maori Legend wich describes
how the vulcanos got their standing places by a lovestory.

This project gave me a lot of fun, I could go on for hours, unfortunatly the movie was
only aloud to last one minute.

it has turned out.

The Never Ending Puzzle

NeverEndingPuzzle1-01
NeverEndingPuzzle3-01
NeverEndingPuzzle2-01

The Never Ending Puzzle is a concept that started of as an illustration for a Kafka story.

It was a very confusing story in wich you couldn't figure out how things actually went in
time and space.

While I saw my classmates struggle with solutions to this puzzle I realized this story was
a puzzle that couldn't or at least didn't have to be solved. So I created the Never Ending
Puzzle. When you think you have the solution of how to put your pieces, it will disort on
another spot.

Me

Pasfoto-01

All pictures of me!

For this project I had to take one portraitpicture of myself and edit it however I
wanted to as long as it kept the size of a postcard. I worked with diffent layers and
sheets, and prints found in magazines. Next to this I combined the picture of myself
with familymembers and my pictures of myself as a little child.

So here is the serie that became a little book of diffent versions of me.

Dancing Shirt

Here you see a dancing shirt… Well actually it is me dancing, or whatever you want to call it…
This was a short music video to experiment with timing in music using film.

Altied te Laat

This project has been a struggle when I started of with it.

I had to choose a word and do research about the 3d capitals and colours.
I didn't know which direction to go with. But when I found this concept and I
started to get the hang of it, I could hardly stop playing and I found myself
creating my first real stop-motion!

So hereby I animated my word 'LAAT' which means 'being late'.

There’s a world going on underground

This short movie was filmed with the camera on my mobile phone.

With my bad-quality-moving-images, I created an interesting short movie,
By a lot of cutting and pasting and adding music and typographics, I gave
it it's underground, dodgy atmosphere.
